As a special treat during Saturday lunchtime, Construct3D has opened up a few conference rooms for informal topic-driven Birds of a Feather sessions. Educators are encouraged to gather for adhoc conversations on topics of their choosing.

To seed this series, JMU professor Laura Taalman (aka “mathgrrl”) and Ultimaker’s Matt Griffin are hosting a lunch focused on the open source, code-driven design tool OpenSCAD . Special guest: OpenSCAD lead developer Marius Kintel, joining via video conference to answer your questions! (Newbies and OpenSCAD veterans alike welcome.)

Have a topic you’d love to spend lunch discussing with fellow educators? Propose your topic on the Construct3D Slack account in the newly-minted “#saturday-bof” channel. Topics that gain the greatest traction by May 3rd will be candidates to add into the online schedule. And even those exciting about a topic not scheduled into official conference rooms are encouraged to rally the other interested educators to meet in any of the available nooks and crannies around the JB Duke hotel.

We have already heard requests for BoFs: around Space Sciences, a 3DP Educator Book Club, and a tips & tricks swap around Preventative Maintenance. What are you excited about?

In addition to the participant-driven BoF sessions, there is also the opportunity to join ally-driven lunch sessions with Shapeways education lead Lauren Slowik and EssentiumU’s Tyllen Bicakcic.
