Research Question Pitch

On Thursday 1/23 we will have those with a research idea present it to everyone else.

Objectives

1. Find others that want to join you in your research project
2. No more than 5 total research projects in the class, with a strong recommendation to be in pairs
3. Receive feedback on your idea so you can start making forward progress on it

Specifications

1. At most 5 minutes long.
2. It should cover:
   1. Minimal background to understand the research question (no need to go into the motivation of why it is important, just primary terms/ideas)
   2. Research question(s)
   3. Data set that you will/hope to use
   4. What venue* you would consider submitting this to

*Venue

For a course project, I would recommend considering either ICER or SIGCSE TS, with a recommendation for most of you to consider SIGCSE TS. ICER has a higher standard of research expectations than SIGCSE TS. Moreover, ICER’s abstract is due March 14th, which means a shorter timeline than this course is designed to have. SIGCSE TS’s deadline is in the summer.

Process

We will spend the second half of the class after our BYOPaper exercise with presentations. The rest of the class will be left for you to discuss with each other ideas for projects.
