Digital Athens project

The aim of this project is to produce a database and digital map of the archaeological remains of ancient Athens.  This project is a collaborative multi-disciplinary endeavor based in the Wired! Lab, and involves students at Duke as well as international colleagues based in Athens.  In the first phase of the project, the team is focusing on digitizing and geo-referencing historical maps, and mapping the material remains of burials, domestic spaces, waterworks, sculpture, marble and bronze workshops, and the wealth of material recently uncovered in the Athens Metro Excavations.  The visualization of change over time and the construction of an interactive database are major aims of this project. Students interested in participating in this project, which includes opportunities for summer fieldwork on site in Athens, should contact me at sheila.dillon[at]duke.edu.
