American Excavations at Morgantina

Excavations began at Morgantina in central Sicily in 1955 and continue with the contributions of many institutions and individuals, including Duke. Currently there are two excavation seasons each summer as well as study and site conservation which are ongoing.

Co-Directors of the American  project are Malcolm Bell III (Professor Emeritus, University of Virginia) and Carla M. Antonaccio (Professor of Classical Studies, Duke University). Project architect is Erik E. Thorkildsen (Michael Dennis Associates, Boston). Excavation and research are conducted in cooperation with the Parco Archeologico Regionale di Morgantina, directed by Dott. Laura Maniscalco, and the Soprintendenza ai Beni Culturali e Ambientali di Enna.

The project’s main website is morgantina.org, including current excavation reports and news. There is a session at the AIA marking the 60th anniversary of the excavations: Morgantina @ 60 Jan. 10, 2015 (New Orleans).
