Doris Cross, Staff Assistant to the Director for the Ralph Bunche Summer Institute
Doris was born and raised in Rose Hill, NC (Duplin County). She received her AAS Degree in Executive Secretarial Sciences in 1979 from Durham College, Durham, NC. She joined the Department of Political Science in 1987 and serves as a Staff Assistant in the department providing support for several faculty members. She also serves as Departmental Accountant, and is the Assistant to the Director for the Ralph Bunche Summer Institute. She has been involved with the RBSI since 2001, working closely with Dr. McClain, personnel, and scholars.
Katelyn Mehling, Graduate Staff Assistant
Katelyn Mehling is a third-year Ph.D. student in political science at Duke. Her interest is in Congressional politics and the role of social movements in elections within the behavior and identities subfield. She completed her undergraduate work at Indiana University, where she majored in sociology and political science.
Jasmine Smith, Assistant to Graduate Staff Assistant
Jasmine is a first year PhD student in political science studying behavior and identities with a focus on racial and ethnic politics. She currently has a project examining how contact with the criminal justice system, specifically police officers, acts as a (de)mobilizing force for political participation including activities such as voting, attending a march, donating to a campaign or candidate, etc. Prior to Duke University, she received her Bachelor’s degree in political science from Indiana University – Bloomington. She is also a member of the Ralph Bunche Summer Institute class of 2016.
Priscilla Torres, Assistant to Graduate Staff Assistant
Priscilla is a first year PhD student in political science with an emphasis in security, peace and conflict. Her research interests include gender and international relations, the international determinants of domestic politics, human security and peace processes. She completed her undergraduate studies at Loyola Marymount University where she majored in political science. Priscilla was born and raised in the Los Angeles area and is a proud Southern Californian. She is also a member of the Ralph Bunche Summer Institute class of 2016.
