Doris Cross, Staff Assistant to the Director for the Ralph Bunche Summer Institute

Doris was born and raised in Rose Hill, NC (Duplin County).  She received her AAS Degree in Executive Secretarial Sciences in 1979 from Durham College, Durham, NC.  She joined the Department of Political Science in 1987 and serves as a Staff Assistant in the department providing support for several faculty members.  She also serves as Departmental Accountant, and is the Assistant to the Director for the Ralph Bunche Summer Institute.  She has been involved with the RBSI since 2001, working closely with Dr. McClain, personnel, and scholars.

Gloria Ayee,  Staff Assistant

Gloria Ayee received her Ph.D. from the Department of Political Science at Duke University. She also holds a Graduate Certificate in African and African American Studies from Duke. Her research interests include political reconciliation, political communication, political participation of immigrant populations, and race and civil rights policy.

I. Augustus Durham Staff Assistant

Israel Durham is a rising fifth-year doctoral candidate in English at Duke University. His work focuses on black studies from the nineteenth to the twenty-first century, interrogating the construction of melancholy in his objects of interest, and how that melancholy catalyzes forms of genius, or performances of excellence. He has published articles in Palimpsest: A Journal on Women, Gender and the Black International and Journal of Religion and Health.
