Arrival by Air

The Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) is the recommended airport for air travel.  RDU is approximately 15 miles from Duke University’s West Campus and the BioMetals 2014 conference site, at the R. David Thomas Executive Conference Center (Thomas Center).

You will require ground transportation from RDU to the Thomas Center.  Transportation services will be available as you exit the baggage area.  Previous visitors have been pleased with RDU Airport Taxi Service (919) 840-7277, Charlene’s Safe Ride (919) 309-7233 and On-Time Taxi (919) 493-5050.   In general, cab fares run anywhere from $40 to $45 or slightly higher, depending on the price of fuel.

Ride share services are also available.  Both Skylink and SkyShuttle, price-reduced alternatives to cabs, pick up guests at the airport and take guests to their destinations. The trip from the airport to the Thomas Center may not be direct, but the cost is less than a taxi.   Advanced booking is required for both Sky Shuttle and Skylink using these respective forms:  SkyShuttle or Skylink.
