Nelson, Big Eye Louis

Along with banjo Delille played clarinet, string bass and accordion. He was born on January 28, 1885 and died August 20, 1949. He worked in Storyville and and led his own Ninth Ward band. Delille performed with the Imperial Orchestra, Superior Orchestra and the Original Creole Orchestra. (See Al Rose and Edmond Souchon, New Orleans Jazz: A Family Album, p. 91)

  1. “Big Eye” Louis Nelson has a recording as a band leader entitled: 1949 Sessions & Live at Luthjens.

    His only known recordings were done in the 1940’s near the end of his career and passing in 1949.

    Other than this 1949 session are there any other know records of “Big Eye” Louis Nelson?
