Welcome to the website of Samuel Bagg. I am a visiting scholar in political theory in the Political Science department at Duke University, where I received my PhD in May of 2017. My work has been published in a range of venues, including the European Journal of Political Theory; Political Research Quarterly; Politics, Philosophy, and Economics; and Political Studies Review. My current book project (titled The Dispersion of Power: Thinking Democratically in the 21st Century) is adapted from my dissertation, which was recently awarded “Most Outstanding Dissertation” (all fields, AY 2016-2017) by Duke’s Political Science department.
My current research centers on democratic theory, though I have wide-ranging interests in the history of political thought, political psychology, political economy, the philosophy of social science, and American pragmatism. For more information about my academic work, please see my research page.
