Disclosing Standardized Results in Dementia Research

    Learning Objectives

Dr. Andy Liu, MD, MS, & Assistant Professor of Neurology, Duke University will:

    • Provide background on tests used to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease
    • Explore the three main categories of testing, including: genetic testing, fluid and imaging biomarkers
    • evidence-base models to disclose testing results

    About The Speaker:

As a behavioral neurologist, Dr. Liu’s primary goal during clinic visits is to determine if brain function changes in adults above the age of 50 are related to the aging process or are suggestive of a neurodegenerative disease requiring further care. Common neurodegenerative diseases that are evaluated during clinic visits include Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, and Lewy body dementia. Another focus during clinic visits is to address all neurological, psychiatric, and medical factors which may impact brain health. Dr. Liu describes understanding a patient's life-long journey as a privilege and honor. This is an important part of his clinic visit since it allows him to identify various risk factors throughout one's life which may lead to the development of a neurodegenerative disorder. Dr. Liu describes this as one of the main reasons he chose to become a behavioral neurologist.
