Professor Bruce Maggs Talk on Akamai

On Monday, October 20th, Duke ACM will host a tech talk by Professor Bruce Maggs on Akamai Technologies, a cloud services provider.

This talk will describe some of the engineering challenges encountered when designing and operating a distributed system consisting of hundreds of thousands of servers deployed at thousands of locations around the world. In particular, the talk will give an overview of Akamai’s content delivery network, highlighting several important design lessons learned, and sprinkling in a few amusing stories.

Bruce Maggs is the Pelham Wilder Professor of Computer Science in the Trinity College of Arts and Sciences at Duke University, and also Vice President for Research at Akamai Technologies, a company he helped create.
Be sure to come early because pizza and drinks will be served!

The talk will take place in LSRC D106 from 6:00- 7:30 pm.
