This workshop will take place in the Trent Semans Center for Health Education, at 8 Coal Pile Drive (also known as 8 Searle Center Drive), Durham, NC 27710.

Dr. Charon will share her insight, expertise and inspiration in the field of narrative medicine. She will also facilitate workshop sessions.

9:35am-12:00pm 
Concurrent Workshop Sessions

Workshop sessions will address the “how” of narrative medicine. 

Experiential sessions will employ a variety of narrative approaches, including prose, poetry, photography, and graphic storytelling. Each 45-minute session will also include an exercise designed to reinforce skills such as listening and reflective writing. Each participant will rotate through concurrent sessions, exploring multiple narrative forms.

All concurrent workshops will be led by Trent Center and guest faculty (see Presenters).

Lunch with Panel Presentation and Discussion

Workshop presenters will share current opportunities in narrative medicine and innovative initiatives expanding the medical humanities at Duke.  The group will discuss possible ways to practice narrative medicine and to engage with colleagues.  Participants will have the opportunity to share their current reflective practices, as well as consider new possibilities.
