Interesting! This seems consistent with other research that suggests people are more likely to accept ideas that align with their core values (or reject ideas that do not align), regardless of the quantity or quality of information supporting those ideas.

When I read this, A thought came into my mind on why it is that americans generally agree that emissions from factories and other industries negatively effect the earths atmosphere, but the same americans do not want to do anything about it becuase solutions that have been offered have effected their “pockets”.

That might give you something to think about when conducting your survey

It’s pretty disconcerting to know that people are more likely to base their opinions about climate change on politics and weather than on the opinion of the entire scientific community. More research definitely needs to be done so that we can figure out more effective ways to reach the public.
