They qualified through making to the semi-final of the AFC U-23 Championship. Korea dominated in the early stages of the tournament with an aggregate score of 12-0, but they allowed 3 goals in the final and let Japan took over the title.

Japan
They qualified by winning the AFC U-23 Championship. Japan also dominated in the early stages of the tournament, and they were able to ride the momentum that they have built in the early stages to claim the continental title with a 3-2 victory over South Korea.

They qualified by beating Qatar to finish 3rd in the AFC U-23 Championship.
