Algeria

They qualified for the Olympics by beating South Africa 2-0 in the Semi-final of the CAF U-23 Africa Championship.

Nigeria

They qualified for the Olympics by making to the semi-final of the CAF U-23 African Championship. Furthermore, they were able to defeat Algeria 2-1 in the final to win the championship trophy.

South Africa

They qualified by winning the play-off for third place in the CAF U-23 Africa Championship. A 2-0 defeat to Algeria in the Final four forced South Africa to compete for the third place with Senegal. A goal less draw led to a penalty shootout won by South Africa.
