Hello! My name is José and I am originally from Mexico but I live in North Carolina! I am a senior double majoring in Computer Science and Statistics. My interests lie in pretty much anything technology related, from videogames to cloud computing.
I joined Ubuntu my sophomore year, and I have been the treasurer for the past 2 years. Outside of Ubuntu, I am on the executive board for Duke Undergraduate Machine Learning, a student group that promotes machine learning on campus and holds the yearly Datathon and Machine Learning Day. I am also a TA for statistics courses (and have been for the past 3 years), so feel free to ask me anything about the Statistics major track.
Outside of school, I enjoy working out, keeping myself updated with politics, and talking about Rupaul’s Drag Race. I also enjoy playing all types of videogames. In my free time I like to keep myself up to date with the latest technologies, as well as learning new software (most recently I learned iOS development on my own).
After graduation I will be working at Amazon as a Software Engineer in Seattle, so feel free to ask me anything about recruiting and interviewing at tech companies. It’s definitely a tough process and luckily we don’t have to do it alone.
