Google Earth & Environmental Problems and Solutions

Various government organizations as well as individuals have begun to exploit the potential Google Earth has for relaying information about alternative energy to the general public.  Several layers have been created regarding many types of alternative energy.  Additionally, power plants and generators of sources of alternative energy can be found using regular satellite views in Google Earth.

While Google Earth and its partnering agencies are off to a good start, much more will have to be done before the world can really benefit from the information Google Earth provides.  Criticisms of the existing layers include that they show locations but don’t reveal any analysis about how this alternative to fossil fuels will help the environment.  Additionally, no information is given about potential investing in any of the types of alternative energy. Google is definitely heading in the right direction but if Google Earth is truly part of the solution to the global energy crisis, much more will have to be done.
