Sports have been around for ages, dating back to the B.C. era. Sports now play a large role in the lives of many people around the world, for both competitive and recreational pursuits. There is a wide variety of sports including ball sports (baseball, basketball, soccer, football, etc.), endurance sports (trail running, hiking, cycling, swimming, triathlons, etc.), and ocean sports (surfing, kite surfing, scuba diving, paddle surfing, sailing, fishing, etc.). The innovation of virtual globes has been monumental in the establishment of a global community with regards to these sports. The most prominent and widely used virtual globe program today is Google Earth. Google Earth provides a multitude of new opportunities for sports enthusiasts. The program can be used as a visual and informational tool for sports fans around the world. While there are many widespread sources where sports enthusiasts can find information about sporting events or the best spots, Google Earth is one of the most helpful applications for such information.
