Decreases in state revenues have translated into drastic cuts to primary and secondary school funding. A recent report by the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities found that 10 states have cut funding by as much as 10% from before the recession and 4 states have cut funding by 20%. Cuts in state funding have resulted in teacher layoffs at the district level. Districts will need to find other sources of revenue in order to avoid devastating effects to student achievement.
