Rochelle D. Schwartz-Bloom, Ph.D.

Rochelle D. Schwartz-Bloom is a Professor of Pharmacology and Cancer Biology at Duke University Medical Center and Founder and Director of the Duke Center for Science Education. During her 25 years in biomedical research, she felt she could have even greater impact on society by “translating” what scientists learn at the bench to the K-12 population and their teachers. She has developed several highly successful science education programs at the national level over the past 15 years and published her research findings on the effectiveness of these programs (see www.rise.duke.edu). Most recently, Dr. Schwartz-Bloom won the 2009 award from the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology for Exemplary Contributions to Science Education.
