Celebrate Open Access Week Oct. 18-22

October 18-22, 2010 marks the 4th celebration of Open Access Week. Visit Scholarly Communications@Duke for a guide of events at Duke. For Open Access Week events in the Triangle, visit: http://www.lib.unc.edu/scholcom/openaccessweek.html

I also received a notice from Dr. Richard Cante (UNC-Chapel Hill), Director of the Interdisciplinary Program in Cinema, about an interesting kick-off lecture at UNC:

“Visualizing Copyright:
Debunking Open Access and Copyright Myths about Film and Visual Media”

Monday, October 18th 10:30 am – 12 noon
Pleasants Family Assembly Room, Wilson Library

Light refreshments will be served.

This discussion will focus on the use of visual media in academic instruction and the scholarly enterprise. What sources can creators use? What uses can be made for instruction? How can works be designed and presented to maximize their benefits to creators, consumers, and society as a whole?

Paul Jones, director of ibilbio.org and clinical associate professor in the UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication and the School of Information and Library Science, will lead this panel discussion.

This panel is sponsored by UNC-Chapel Hill’s University Libraries Scholarly Communication Committee.
