Lab Description:
Research in the lab focuses on the development of achievement motivation in school settings and the interplay among achievement motivation, affect, and learning. Across a variety of research projects, we seek to further the theoretical basis for the study of achievement motivation while also informing educational practice and policy. As such, research projects in the lab focus on understanding how to create classroom contexts that promote adaptive forms of motivation. This research also investigates the interplay between the classroom climate, the teacher, and individual differences. A second series of studies considers the interplay among forms of achievement motivation (e.g., achievement goals, efficacy, interest), affect (moods and emotions), and students’ engagement and learning using both experimental and survey methodologies.
