We’re delighted that you will be joining us for our 2023 Duke Anesthesiology Holiday Party at The Cotton Room in downtown Durham’s Golden Belt Historic District! Here’s a sneak peek at the exciting highlights you’ll find at this year’s celebration.
ENTRY
Please provide your name at the door for entry to the party.
Please enter the party at the main entrance/first-floor lobby of Building 2. The Cotton Room is located on the third floor (room 350), with access via elevator and stairs.
Celebrate and dance the night away with the live band, Bull City Syndicate – NEW THIS YEAR – and regionally renowned as the “best horn band in the mid-Atlantic!” Proudly named after the city of its birth (Durham), Bull City Syndicate (BCS) merges the sounds of the classic horn bands with the songs of today. Highlighting an intricate fusion of danceable R&B, funk, rock, jazz, swing, classics and current Top-40, featuring the BCS Horns, they deliver four-horn firepower and soaring vocals with original style and flair.

Duke Men’s Basketball Raffle
While mingling at the Belt Line Station or the Southern Speakeasy, enter a raffle for a chance to win a pair of tickets to see the Duke Blue Devils Men’s Basketball team at Cameron Indoor Stadium take on Hofstra University on December 12th or Queens University of Charlotte on December 30th. You can enter the raffle between 7 pm and 10 pm.
Hot Chocolate and Coffee Bar
Exclusively located in the Southern Speakeasy, guests can toast the evening at the hot chocolate and coffee bar featuring an assortment of flavors and toppings.
About the Venue
The Cotton Room is more than just an event venue; it’s a sign of hometown pride. Exposed brick, ceiling to floor windows and timeless architecture are just a few of the attributes that make The Cotton Room one of the most sought-after event venues in Durham. This historical landmark is located in downtown Durham’s historic Golden Belt campus, helping to preserve and revitalize an old textile factory that produced cotton pouches for Bull Durham tobacco.
Belt Line Station
Housed in the former freight depot at Golden Belt, and just steps away from The Cotton Room, Belt Line Station is a unique, vintage train station platform that we’ve once again added for our guests to mingle and celebrate with colleagues! The restored train landing combines history and style with more than 4,000 square feet of party space and an adjacent, outdoor patio with market lights.
Southern Speakeasy
Looking for a more intimate, low-key vibe during the festivities? Be sure to check out the newest addition to our holiday party, the Southern Speakeasy! This new venue is just steps away from the train station platform and outdoor patio. It features a full bar, a hot chocolate and coffee bar, and offers additional restrooms.
Parking
Guests can utilize the two parking lots in front of and behind Building 2 and street parking.
Front Parking Lot: turn left on Morning Glory Ave. and drive directly straight to the front parking lot.
Back Parking Lot: turn left on Morning Glory Ave., your first right continuing on Morning Glory Ave., your next left on Belt St., and a left on Franklin St. to the back parking lot. Signage at the event will also direct guests to parking.
