Group Therapy at Duke
June 21, 2011 | | Leave a Comment
Group therapy is offered weekly on Wednesday evenings, 5:30 to 7:00 pm, at the Duke University Faculty Practice in Psychiatry (DUFP). The office is located in Erwin Square Tower, 2200 W. Main Street, Suite 340, Durham, NC 27705. There is plenty of free parking at the building.
Group therapy is run by Kate Thieda, MS, LPCA, NCC, a counselor at DUFP. Clients do not have to be in individual therapy to participate in the group. However, an intake session with Kate must happen prior to your first group session. The intake lasts 20-30 minutes and is free of charge.
DUFP is in-network for Duke Cigna mental health benefits only. For all other insurances or self-pay clients, group is $70/session, which must be paid up front. If you have insurance other than Duke Cigna, you will be provided with forms to submit for reimbursement. (Typical individual therapy in the Durham area is $120-140/session, so you are getting therapy with a trained practitioner for 1/2 price.)
The group is open in format, which means you are under no obligation to make a commitment to attend regularly. Each group session will be focused on a particular topic, and you can choose whether or not it is of interest to you. Group topics will generally run in 8-12 week cycles, so if you miss it one time, it will likely come back around again. Also, topics will be added/deleted based on client feedback. Group topics and dates can be found under the “Calendar of Topics” link above.
Please email Kate or call 919-416-3457 if you have questions or would like to schedule an intake session.
