You have already seen some of Ousmane’s work as a filmmaker in the selections from

J’ai découvert un article intéressant sur le dernier film d’Ousmane Sembène, « Moolaadé », qui traite le sujet de l’excision des femmes africaines:

Il me semble très important de remarquer l’intérêt de Sembène dans la question de la pouvoir des femmes et leur capacité de participer dans des actions révolutionnaires. Cela nous rappelle de l’article de Cooper, qui met l’accent sur le fait que les femmes n’ont pas été une « distinct entity » (p. 96) dans la grève de 1947-1948, bien que Sembène offre un rôle spécial aux femmes africaines qui participent à ce protest.
