WordPress posts and pages don’t have to be limited to text alone. Images can be directly added or “embedded” into a page or post by clicking on the Add Media icon above the text box within pages and posts.

Images can be added to WordPress posts or pages by uploading them to WordPress, or linking to images already on the web (ex: images in Flickr).

Because of the large size of video files, most videos cannot be uploaded to WordPress. Videos uploaded to sites such as YouTube can, however, be embedded directly into a post or page. For more info on video sites that this feature works with, see the WordPress Codex.
