Revisions (Rs)

We will pause at three moments during the semester  to let you look over the writing you’ve done in the previous weeks and choose an exercise (X) that you’d like to work more with—to develop, extend, and revise. I’ll talk with you in conference about your plans and ideas for each revision before you begin serious work on it. Think of these revisions as a chance to move from experiment (a first response to a text, a first attempt at a certain form) to finished performance. You will not only to want to edit and polish but also to extend and develop the work you did in your first draft, so revisions tend to be longer than first drafts—and they should certainly be more imaginative, precise, accomplished, and nuanced. Each of your three revisions will earn a letter grade. I’ll ask you to include a brief reflection on the development of your piece along with its final draft.
