This course is structured to support your work on two main writing projects for the semester: (1) an idea-centered blog, and (2) a digital essay.
Most of your work in the first half of the semester will center on starting up a blog. You’re required to make regular posts to your blog during the eight weeks from January 24 to March 20. You’re also required to work as part of a blogging group in which you will read and comment the blogs written by four or five other members of this class. During the first few months of the semester, we’ll regularly set aside time during class for these blogging groups to meet and talk.
After spring break, your work will shift towards proposing, drafting, developing, and revising your digital essay. Proposals for these projects are due on 3/20. We’ll take time during class to learn how to use various web formats, and we will workshop drafts of your digital essays in small groups on 4/03 and 4/17. I’ll ask you to talk briefly about your project during our last class on 4/24.
I’ll also ask you to write and post brief responses to a series of readings on digital culture, as well as to report on blogs and other web work that you find of interest. We’ll often use these posts to start and structure our conversation in class.
See Writing Projects for more details about these assignments.
Good luck! I look forward to working with you!
