Ernest Hemmingway supposedly won a bet writing a 6-word story- “Classified: Baby Goods. For sale. Baby shoes. Never worn.”
In this vein, we challenged ourselves to sum up the first few days of DukeEngage PDX using 10 words or less. Not an easy task considering the distances we traveled to be in Portland, the comprehensive walking tour of the city we took on Friday morning, the weekend we spent hiking in old growth forest, or the games we played. Undaunted, we wrote. The results are below. We hope you will enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed writing and sharing them within the group.
Meeting tired hikers with a love for dessert.
It’s raining- so we become Portlanders and, a team.
Though less food, sleep, internet- a great start to Oregon.
Hiking trails. In the rain. So much food. Playing games.
Full stomachs, soaked shoes, board games, and beautiful scenery.
Together, walking paths softly step by step, rain or shine.
Green unfamiliar new world. Exciting opportunities. Challenge accepted.
Vegetarian food is surprisingly good even after long, rainy hikes.
Every day, new experiences, and fresh air. When is dinner?
We hiked fungically dominated forests- a confluence of ten minds.
