Toad in February

We love Wednesdays because most Wednesdays we get a morning dog walk with the kids and an evening dog walk with Uncle Scott.  This Wednesday was no exception.  Dooley is still learning about heeling instead of taking humans for a drag.  Emerson and I usually end up walking with Mom.  It’s dark.  Uncle Scott brings a bright light to help with any necessary clean up.  We have fun.  Last night we found a toad in the middle of the road.  We got VERY excited.  Uncle Scott and Mom didn’t know why we were so excited, as the toad was camouflaged to match the road surface.  Each of us tried to pull in different directions.  All of us wanted to surround the toad and sniff it.  The more we sniffed, the more wound up we got.  Finally, Mom saw the toad and so Uncle Scott took all 3 leads and Mom got a pooper scooper bag out and picked up the toad and put him on the grass of the yard at the corner of our street.  While all of this was happening, a new dog and its owner came to the corner across the street.  A chow chow.  We crossed paths with the Chow chow several times and I think by the end Dooley was beginning to understand that we weren’t going to get to sniff noses… but maybe he hasn’t given up hope as yet.  We always enjoy walks when we get to see other animals!

Angus’ stitches are out!

I went to see Dr. Konvalinka today.  He took my staples and stitches out, did all the dreadful annual exam stuff and I barked at everyone as usual, but the really great news is I’m cleared for dog walks!  No prolonged running and I’m not allowed to be loosed on deer in the woods ( I don’t get to do this anyway), so tomorrow morning, I’m back out the front door bright and early!

Emerson here.  Everyone got their first day in Durham pictures up so I wanted to share an early one of me.  Mom got me from a breeder in South Dakota.  Before I came to live with Mom, the breeder called me Roly and sent some baby pictures to Mom.  I got to fly to come and stay with Mom just before the 4th of July.  I had the hiccups the entire first day, I was so nervous.

Angus – how I came to Durham

While my now brother, Dooley, came to live in Durham when he was jus 4 months old, I didn’t come to live in Durham until I was 4 years old.  My first family gave me to Scottie Rescue and my now Mom, Muir, rescued me.  Here’s a picture of me before I came to live with Mom.

My first day, I met my other now brother, Emerson, and we sniffed around until we got to know one another better.

Since I’ve been in Durham, I’ve been to 2 series of classes which included Agility and Obedience.  Mom and I have a great time going to classes.

I like Durham.  Now I’m getting to know some new friends who when I get better from my surgery will be walking around out neighborhood again.  Hooray!

Dooley remembers his first Durham day

Seeing Pepper on the pack walk and seeing her human, reminded me of my first day in Durham.  I was a little scared and very excited.  I was taken in a car from Jacksonville, NC up to a road side stop where I first met my human, Muir.  She had Pepper’s human, Nancy, with her.  We all got in Muir’s car and drove to Durham.  I got out with Nancy and a little while later Muir came back with my now brothers Emerson and Angus.  For a little while I stayed in a gated area in Muir’s livingroom until Emerson, Angus and I got used to one another.  That was after Muir gave me a bath, because I didn’t smell very good at first.  I’m much better now.  Here’s a picture of me in my gated area before we all got used to one another.
