PLU is announcing a call for travel grant applications for the 2011-2012 academic year. This year, members of Duke’s Alpha Pi chapter are eligible to receive a total of nine awards, four of which will be awarded in the fall and five of which will be awarded in the spring. Travel grants awarded by PLU are meant to support members traveling to both regional and national conferences to present scientific research.
In order to be considered eligible for a travel grant, you must be a Duke student, must have passed your preliminary examination, and must be a registered member of PLU. In the event that more applications are received than can be awarded a grant, preference will be given to those who
- have not previously received a PLU Travel Grant
- are attending a national meeting rather than a local conference
- are planning to deliver an oral presentation rather than present a poster
- have published on their scientific findings
Students may apply for travel grants both in the fall and the spring and may receive up to one grant per application cycle and two grants per academic year. An electronic and a hard copy of the application along with an abstract and proof of acceptance (or proof of attendance if applying retroactively for funding) should be submitted to Adria Wilson (arw31@duke.edu) within the designated application period. Applicants may submit an application for a conference they’ve already attended, but the conference must have occurred no more than one month before the application period. Note that lowest priority will be given to such applications.
Fall applications will be accepted from Monday, October 31 to Friday, November 18. The spring application deadline has been postponed until further notice. Those chosen to receive grants will be notified by Friday, December 2. Application materials can be found in the link below.
