Family Comes First

To North Carolina Jews, family is both an enduring value and a haven –

Family is a connection to timeless tradition and a source of identity within a largely Christian mainstream culture. Judaism is a religion observed in the home even more than the synagogue, as families gather for Sabbath dinners and Passover Seders.

The reach of family extends beyond the home, too. The Jewish population in North Carolina grew because the first arrivals sent word to relatives and offered to help them get their start here. Even today, Carolina Jews help support distant family and communities in Europe, Russia, Africa, and Israel.
