The Activists

This project would not have been possible without the time and energy that Susan Bernstein, Lorna Chafe, Meri-Li Douglas, Lois Eby, Dr. Jaroslav Hulka, Elizabeth Knowlton, Gilna Nance, Yvonne Peña, Brenda Pollard, Dr. Margie Sved, Connie Winstead and Suzi Woodard took to share their memories and experiences with us. We learned more from our conversations with them, which they graciously allowed us to record, than we ever could have from even an infinite number of history books. We also had the privilege of being included on a thread of emails among Elizabeth, Gilna, Margie and Connie. Without their dedication to our research, we could not have completed this project. And certainly, without their dedication to to activism the three of us would not have the opportunities nor the rights that we have today. For their time and energy, both then and now, we thank them.
