Handicap Accessible Playground 2006

Pic - playground_map

Duke EWB is not limited to outreach in the developing world. When local nonprofit organization From the Ground Up approached us to design and build a playground for children with disabilities, we jumped at the opportunity. A great number of sick and disabled children receive treatment at medical facilities in the Research Triangle Park area. The Morreene Road Park will feature a playground designed to minimize mobility barriers so that all children can play regardless of physical ability

OUR ROLE

Our contribution is to design several pieces of play equipment to go along with the main play structure. While the main play structure is being funded by From the Ground Up and the city of Durham, our stuctures will be self-funded and built afterwards. We have developed detailed plans for two pieces with space theme:

Handicap Accessible

Construction began on the main structure of the playground in summer 2006. Duke EWB students volunteered their time to construct the playground and organize volunteers from the Durham community.
