My name is Nicki Willis, and I am from Atlanta, Georgia! I study environmental engineering, with a certificate in global development engineering and a minor in global health. DEID has been an integral part of my Duke undergraduate experience, inspiring my summer engagements and now my career direction. I was a member of 2015 Uganda team, where we constructed 8 new classrooms for Hope Academy in Kaihura, Uganda. I also served as project leader of the inaugural 2016 Madagascar team, where we constructed a rainwater catchment system for the community of Manantenina, Madagascar. Both of these experiences provide continuous inspiration and motivation to pursue a future in sustainable global development. I believe that engineers have a social responsibility to “do good” with our engineering education through initiating high impact, sustainable engineering projects. I am honored to serve as DEID’s president to fulfill this purpose. I am also a Project Waves staff leader, club soccer team member, member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and a passionate Duke basketball fan!
