Features & Integrations

The Sites@Duke Express service includes dozens of themes adopted from the wordpress.org theme repository. Site owners can use these to change the design of their site. Different themes have different properties and may work better (or worse) with different plugins. Changing themes may substantially change the overall functionality of your site, so proceed with caution.

Given the wide variety of themes available, the Sites Express team does not provide detailed technical support for the multiple configurations possible in each theme.

Two Duke-branded themes are available, as well as a Duke School of Medicine theme (including specific instructions for use).

Plugins provide a way to modify or add functions to a WordPress site, like additional menu items or options, or new sidebar widgets. We strongly recommend activating only the plugins you know you’ll need, and disabling them if you decide not to use them after all.

Sites Express users all have access to the same set of plugins; we do not accept requests for additional plugins to be added to individual sites. However, we go through a review process each semester to determine what additional functionality to consider for our service. If you have a plugin you would like us to consider adding for next semester, please complete our feature request form.

Themes and plugins are actively reviewed by the Sites Express team, and those that are not being used or are no longer supported will be retired. In order to see our list of current themes and plugins, please read the instructions on the OIT website.
