Chase Olivieri is a senior pursuing a Certificate in Documentary Studies. In King’s Sandwich Shop: Tasting Downtown Durham’s Revitalization, documents the sandwich shop opened by the High family in 1942, which, for decades, served fresh burgers, hot dogs, and shakes to customers of all income brackets. King’s closed in 2007, but was reopened in 2010 by T.J. McDermott, who rallied community members to help him restore the legendary restaurant. Tasting Downtown Durham’s Revival is about the remaking of King’s sandwich shop, the people behind the business, and its place in Durham’s history.
