Duke Students Take 1st Place in Wharton’s 2015 Latam PE Competition

Fuquans attended the Wharton’s 2015 Latam Private Equity Competition and came home with the first place check!!

They competed against 12 teams from 9 different top business schools including Wharton, Yale, NYU, Columbia, Booth, Cornell, Kellogg, HEC and HKU. The competition consisted of 2 rounds. In the first round, the Fuqua team presented an investment opportunity they had prepared and then moved on to the second round, in which they had 2 hours to analyze and present on a separate investment opportunity.

Pablo Ramos, CASE i3 co-chair and member of the winning team, reported that the Fuqua team pushed back on deal terms they were given, which he said he learned about doing in detail in the impact investing elective course at Fuqua. He thinks it was their explicit guidance about how to make the deal worth doing that helped them take first place.

Judges included staff from top firms in the industry such as ACON, Carlyle, Advent International, Gramercy, Goldman Sachs, and Credit Suisse, among others.

Congrats TeamFuqua!
