Mac users can access their home or class folder (but not the applications) from anywhere in the world by using their lab username and password. From the FINDER, select GO, then “Connect to Server…” and enter: AFP://ARTSLABS.TRINITY.DUKE.EDU/. You will be asked for your username and password.
For PC users, depending on your version of Windows, you can connect to the server by finding how to “Map a Network Drive”. In the box provided, enter
\\artslabs.trinity.duke.edu\Commons\ (to connect to the class shares), or \\artslabs.trinity.duke.edu\Homes (to connect to your specific user folder, you’ll be asked your username and password and which folder you would like to connect.
There is no remote access option for those who wish to use lab applications. The remote access option is for file sharing/access only.

To all,

Here is a nice link to a video demonstration on how to connect to the artslabs server with a PC. This was made by Allen Creech over in Documentary Studies.
Some users might find it necessary to use VPN in order to connect properly, in order to use VPN, go to http://portal.duke.edu/ and follow the prompts.
Let us know how this works for you; the demo is done using Windows 7, but the concept is basically the same for XP and Vista.
Hope this is helpful!
